As part of my Ofsted Registration I am required to follow the EYFS or Early Years Foundation Stage. I offer a wide range of fun learning opportunities and activities in a relaxed setting for all age groups.
For the under fives, the activities are planned strategically and to fulfil the Early Years Foundation Stage learning and development requirements. I plan according to the EYSF document as well as in response to the childrens'interests, ages and stages of development. I assess the children's learning and plan for their progression, whilst always following the childrens' interests. Much of the learning is topic and season focussed. Throughout their time with me I keep a Learning Journal and take photos of them as they go, recording their development and adding in pieces of work which reflect their achievements. Parents are welcome to contribute to their learning journals by regularly reflecting on them and writing comments.
Through the EYFS the children learn and develop in the following areas...
o Personal, Social and Emotional Development
o Communication, Language and Literacy
o Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
o Knowledge and Understanding of the World
o Physical Development
o Creative Development
Several of these focus areas are covered every day before we even realise it, though on some days we may focus on an activity which really helps the children progress in a single area. The idea is that the children are having lots of fun and learning new things every day without even knowing it. It is me doing all the hard work behind the scenes to make sure each child has the opportunity to make progress according to their specific interests, abilities and learning styles!
What the children bring from home.....
I ask the children be dressed in comfortable clothes that they can move about in easily and which aren't too precious, so as they can feel free to take part in all activities whether climbing in the park or painting and cooking. Jogging bottoms and a t- shirt and sweat shirt is ideal.
We do play in the garden and go on outings in all sorts of weather and so it is important that the children are prepared for this. We also take part in many indoor activities so for safety and hygiene I ask the children have available...Welly Boots, raincoat, hat and gloves (in winter), sun hat, sun cream, slippers or slipper socks, spare change of clothes (including socks and underwear), nappies and wipes. Any comfort items, such as a special toys, blanket or dummy also need to be sent from home.
Rest Time
Each child has available to them a travel cot and their own personal bedding for nap times. For those who no longer take a nap in the day, I provide "Quiet Time" with a comfy sofa to rest on and a box of books or CBeebies. Nap time is usually from early afternoon until school pick up. Though other routines can be accomodated.
